Modern House launches Inigo specialising in historic home sales

The Modern House is a different kind of estate agency. Voted by GQ as one of the best estate agencies in the world, its main ethos is “that it is all about a lifestyle”, helping people to live out their architectural fantasies by giving them access to the most beautiful homes in the UK.

In fact, The Modern House has been responsible for selling some of the very best in 20th-century architecture, resulting in a resurgence in the popularity of modernist homes.

In 2021, The Modern House expanded its horizons by creating Inigo, an estate agency that is entirely focused on older properties. As much as The Modern House is all about modern architectural gems, Inigo is about period ones. The two ends of the scale have been addressed by one parent company, allowing its clients to have the best of both old and new.

Even Inigo’s name is significant. It links back to Inigo Jones, a 16th-century architect who was famous for applying Vitruvian rules of symmetry and proportion to any building he designed. The name goes some way to offering an insight into the kind of stylistic treats that you might find on their site.

Each property benefits from high-end editorial and specialist photography. The properties themselves, although certainly special, don’t have to be huge mansions or castles. They could be anything from the humble bungalows to the largest sprawling estates. This is the clever part of the new company’s ideals: a home is a home no matter what size, and those on a budget should be just as able to enjoy beautiful architecture as those with no restrictions.

Why live in a period property?

If you’re curious as to why a period property might offer you the ideal home, there are several reasons we’ve put together:

Original features and character

Perhaps the best part about living in a period property is the wealth of original features you’ll have all around you. Think of the history that comes with these special features, and the character they will give your home. A more modern house won’t have had a chance to develop this character yet, and it generally won’t include all the elements that make a period property so unusual and charming.

Kerb appeal

There is no doubt about it, a well-maintained period property will always look beautiful and have instant kerb appeal. Whatever it is you’re looking for, whatever you personally find attractive in a home, a period house will have it. From thatched roofs to English cottages with roses round the door, a period property certainly has that ‘wow factor’ that so many home buyers are searching for.

Maintains its value

Even if you’re not intending to move on once you’ve bought a period property and you plan to stay there for the rest of your life, it’s still good to know that it is going to maintain its value and potentially increase in value as time goes on.

Location

Although you can find new properties in the countryside and period properties in towns and cities, generally, when you’re looking for a period property to call home, it’s going to be more rural and allow you to take in the beauty of the local countryside.

If you are looking for a period property to call your own, you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the country all while enjoying a beautiful setting inside as well.
